Siren of The Dry Lands is an installation based on a dialog between two characters, man and siren. In Greek mythology Sirens are dangerous and beautiful, femme fatale, creatures that lures men into their deaths. In present day the Internet could be a form of modern sirens. We can all agree that the ‘Inter-web’ is a positive reinforcement in our everyday life, but it is easy for us to get caught up in the virtual reality. Most people today spend most of their time on-line, it is safe to say that people use it for everything; they are all mesmerized by the Siren. In this work, the idea of man being owned by siren will be shown by the projection dialog of the siren and the performance of man’s confession. The skeleton plexi that is in front of him is a representation of the metaphorical death of men. They are a prisoner of the siren, fully controlled by a beast that men taught they conquered, when in fact they are the one who is being conquered by the beast. This work is a narrative of a man’s relationship with the being that has a full control of him, with out him knowing of the reality.
The text that is being projected onto man is describing the characteristics of the siren. She is selfless, careless, confident, providing, nurturing, knowledgeable, comforting, easy going, understandable, can do anything that the person want, pleasing, and social; she is everything that someone could ever ask for. It is projected onto man, as he is narrating his personality, as a confession of who he is and what he needs. Man that are uncertain of them self, “normal”, no pressure to relate, a thinker, self-conscious, and so on. This installation will depict the two conversation and the intimate relationship of trust and reliance of man onto siren, that emphasize that men had fallen under her spell.
